SACLG seeking greater role on government policy and program for communities
South Asian Community Link Group (SACLG) team visited parliament of Victoria on 21st June, 2016 and attended the meeting with Hon.Robin David Scott Minister for Multicultural affairs, finance & police, Hon. Danielle Green Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Major Events and Regional Victoria and Hon.Maria Vamvakinou MP Federal member for Calwell .
Team was led by SACLG Patron Mr Deepak Vinayak along with other members and represented the south asian communities. SACLG team shared the common south asian community challenges and expressed their ideas for future policy making process. Mr Deepak Vinayak said – ” SACLG has always known as one organisation representing different south asian countries under one banner and parliament visit has consolidated the agenda of bringing youth ambassadors together and empowering them by providing representation. He added – this will led to policy reviews and participation of immigrants in important and critical decision making process.”
Mr Raju Adhikari, President SACLG conveyed sincere thanks to Hon Danelle Green and Chief Patron Hon Maria for supporting parliament visit program. He added , SACLG works closely with south asian communities and government agencies to meet some of the emerging challenges such as social disharmony, inter generational conflicts, disillusion among youth and women, language barrier and depression in ageing population. Most of the community’s organisation project lack strategic directions and not able to address above challenges in a meaningful way, due to volunteer nature, lack of commitments , team spirit, poor partnership and collaboration. SACLG therefore works as a think tank by linking these communities and promoting partnership for the common goal.
Executive Member of SACLG, Dr Sonia Singh called this visit as a very fruitful and informative. SACLG has taken this opportunity to engage with government and participate in political and decision making process.
Dr Raju Adhikari conveyed his sincere thanks to Hon Minister Robin Scott for his support and listening to our challenges and also promised to update the minister on the progress on SACLG projects and programs.
