Senior citizens workshop on settlement challenges and opportunities

South Asian Communities Link Group (SACLG) hosted Senior Citizens event which included an interactive workshop for South Asian Senior Citizens on the theme “Settlement Challenges and Opportunities in Australia” at Newbury Child and Community centre in Craigieburn.

The program included live session on topics such as Cultural, Social and legal rights of senior citizens. The program was attended by over 120 senior citizens, representative of the senior citizen associations of the South Asian region. Mrs Ros Spence, MP, state member from Craigieburn was the chief guest representing Minister for Multicultural Hon.Robin Scott.

SACLG provided certificate of Appreciation to Senior citizen Associations and other association for their contributions and support to Senior citizens in their community.

Dr Raju Adhikari, SACLG President shared the vision of SACLG and highlighted on the challenges and opportunities that exist for senior citizens especially for those who migrate at a very later stages of their life under family reunion category. He further said that SACLG has a major role to play and will take seriously the recommendations of the todays seminar and will endeavour to work with senior citizens association.SACLG photo

SACLG thanked Victoria Government and VMC for their support and all senior citizen associations Nepali Senior Citizen Club, Bhutanese Senior Citizen Associations, Indian Senior Citizen associations,Multicultural Senior Citizen Association, Nepalese Association of Victoria, Geelong Nepali Samaj, Melbourne Telangana forum , Didi Bhaini Samaj, Craigiburn Samaj Senior Community groups for their participation and sharing their experiences. Mr Harka Bahadur Gurung, President of Nepali senior Citizen Association made a personal contribution of $ 50 from his pension money to this cause and commented that SALG program was timely and working together for this cause will bring tangible outcome.
